My Story
Professional Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Los Angeles
My name is Beverly Teller (she/her). Thank you for your curiosity in visiting me here.
I know there is often a sense of disconnection between our vision for our lives and what we may be experiencing day-to-day. I understand what it means to struggle, and I am grateful to support people through their path to healing.
To the marginalized and oppressed Black, African American, People of Color, and Indigenous communities who struggle every day, I do not know what your struggle feels like. In my therapy practice, I start by validating the impact of racial trauma. I commit to understanding the intersection between race, class, gender, and all heteronormative constructs that lead to the oppression and marginalization of your experiences. My work is ongoing and constantly learning.
I believe our ability to empathize, show compassion, and gratitude for others is dependent on our own ability to process past struggles. My story starts with letting clients know that I do my work, and I work everyday to show up present, vulnerable, and willing to connect.
Although I believe in being a ‘side by side’ therapist in this journey with you, this is not all that I am willing to be. I come into the room with a lot of active energy and an ability to notice, appreciate, and grow all the skills, strengths and knowledge you already have. Then, in a safe environment, I will support you to take risks in order develop skills that lead to healing.
My purpose in life is to create a space where people feel safe enough to show up vulnerable and demonstrate the courage needed to heal.
By coming to understand the problematic patterns and dynamics that are no longer useful, we will figure out alternative ways of relating to others and ourselves that create movement and opportunity for change.
The values I practice that motivate my work every day are service, connection, belonging, and gratitude. With these personal values, I am able to connect with individuals and envision a space where strong relationships are created.
