Anxiety

Living a life with small or intermittent feelings of anxiety is normal and usually manageable. However, anxiety becomes an issue when it starts to hijack or takeover your day to day activities. Anxiety does not only live in your mind, but it can be felt and experienced throughout the body.

Anxiety is a felt emotion that can be a combination of or stem from deeper feelings. For example, anxiety disorders can make you feel overwhelmed, scared, or fearful about everyday situations. People often experience anxiety as pervasive worry, feeling frozen or stuck, self-doubt, overthinking, and/or over-analyzing. When these types of emotions are present, the part of our nervous system that is responsible for survival is constantly in control.

Our experience with interacting with the world, forming relationships, and finding connection becomes secondary to surviving. Anxiety can alter your ability to make healthy decisions that are aligned with your hopes, dreams, values, and beliefs. Ultimately, anxiety can keep you from finding meaning and purpose in your life.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Even though these are only some of the effects of anxiety, there are clear and effective methods to treat anxiety disorders.

Anxiety, like stress, lives throughout the entire body. In my practice, we will work together to identify how your body and mind have been hijacked by anxiety. This can be anywhere from your posture (feeling closed off), to constantly sweating, or even experiencing emotional triggers rooted in trauma.

The work we do together will be about making all the things you care about that are rooted in your values visible. I will support you in figuring out what makes up your identity and taking steps toward living more congruently. Cultivating self-compassion will be pivotal throughout the process of recovering from anxiety.

As I’ve seen people heal from the most significant anxiety, I am proud to inform my clients that healing is absolutely possible. Overcoming anxiety will allow you to have a deeper sense of connection and belonging to yourself and to others in your life.
