Depression

Depression can originate from a biological, environmental, genetic, psychological, or an experiential situation. Regardless of the source of your depression, there are healthy ways to overcome depression.

Over the course of my career, I’ve witnessed depression take many forms such as helplessness, hopelessness, shame, chronic fatigue, sleep deprivation, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, and manifestations of physical pain. Negative self talk that is often rooted in automatic or unconscious thought patterns can keep you from experiencing love, joy, connection, and belonging.

The work we do together will be to deconstruct and understand why you are feeling defenseless against depression. Through self-compassion and patience, you will form new meaning that is rooted in your own values and beliefs. Overcoming the oppressive effects of depression will provide you with an opportunity to feel a sense of connection and belonging to yourself.

My practice is first and foremost built on creating a safe space for you to feel and embody any experiences that come up.

I will implement proven therapy methods grounded in forming healthy relationships, creating a sense of connection and belonging, cultivating mindfulness of your emotions, and removing any barriers to accessing motivation. Even though depression is serious, it can be successfully treated by building skills and practicing consistency.

I work with my clients in separating their identities from their thoughts or feelings. Often times the most negative feelings and thoughts dominate our emotional well-being, which keep our values, hopes and dreams invisible.

Practicing healthy ways of thinking, self-compassion, and creating stronger relationships that are grounded in connection and belonging are the first steps forward in the process of overcoming depression.
